CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

James A. Walsh served as Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller for the U.S. Department of State from September 2022 to June 2025, leading the Bureau of the Comptroller and Global Financial Services with 1,500 staff managing $127 billion in assets. He advised the Secretary and Under Secretary for Management and oversaw worldwide financial operations. Previously, he held senior roles in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, worked in the private sector, and served eight years in the U.S. Army. A Senior Executive Service member, he holds degrees from West Point and Bowie State.
